At Hallpyke, we understand that it can be difficult to know which filter to choose and we have seen the implications of choosing the wrong filter. This is why we strongly recommend investing time into the correct filter selection. On one occasion, we had a filter in for testing that was used as a sterile vent on a hot water tank in a pharmaceutical plant.
The importance of correct filter selection
By looking closely at the images below, it is obvious that the filter had noticeable discolouration on the hardware. The yellowish look of the support cage and polypropylene end caps is a result of continuous exposure to elevated temperatures.
Something that can also be seen in the photo below is a white powder like substance, this is the support and drainage layers that have broken down due to the constant temperature. Although the PTFE membrane is capable of withstanding high temperatures, the drainage and support layers on standard PTFE sterile gas filters are not.
Assistance with filter selection
The filter failed the filter integrity testing however it could have easily passed if the correct filter was selected for the application.
It’s important to invest time into choosing the correct filter. For assistance on correct filter selection, please contact the Hall Pyke support team on 353-1-4501411 or send us an email to info@hallpyke.ie.
